Since my retirement from sport, I have tried to maintain good physical fitness. I still go out on my bicycle and I regularly run marathons and half-marathons. This year, I also learned to swim the crawl because I have given myself a huge challenge: to complete my first Ironman in 2007 !
Nutrition is an important part of my preparation. Above all, you really have to know your needs. I balance my meals by leaving plenty of room for starchy foods, I eat foods I like and I drink adequately, especially on training days. My energy drink is Isostar Hydrate & Perform because it tastes good and I can digest it easily. As it's isotonic and has a good content of carbohydrate sodium and micro-nutrients, it speeds up hydration and is an excellent energy source.
You mustn't take a marathon lightly, you have to prepare for it. To ensure success in the event, I drink plenty in the preceding days, up to 4 litres per day. On the day itself, I carry Actifood with me, which I eat during the exercise.

I always try to benefit from the race and enjoy it. With experience, I have learned not to start too fast. Completing a marathon is a good lesson in humility !
